Postal strike affects services of the Finnish Kennel Club

A strike that affects mail delivery will begin on Monday, 11th November and continue until Sunday, 24th November. The main Finnish postal service Posti estimates that the delivery of letters and magazines will be interrupted and that the delays could last for weeks. This also affects services of the Finnish Kennel Club and Showlink Oy, as well as deliveries related to Koiramessut – Dog Fair Finland.

Dogs living in Norway prohibited from taking part in canine events in Finland until 30th September

The Board of the Finnish Kennel Club has decided to extend the prohibition for dogs living in Norway to participate in canine events in Finland until 30th September 2019. The prohibition concerns all canine events held under the aegis of the Finnish Kennel Club. The decision is re-evaluated before 30th September. The reason for the prohibition is a serious illness affecting dogs in Norway.

The Finnish Kennel Club awards 18 dogs for saving human lives

The Finnish Kennel Club grants the title Sankarikoira, hero dog, to 18 dogs in 2017. In addition, 21 dogs get an honourable mention for their heroic deeds. The title Sankarikoira can be awarded to dogs that have significantly contributed to saving one or more human lives. The Finnish Kennel Club awards these dogs on Sunday 10th December at Koiramessut – Dog Fair Finland at Helsinki Fair Centre. The upcoming EU regulation will steer dog breeding in a more commercial direction, towards large kennel units

In 2023, the European Commission published a proposal for a regulation on the welfare and identification of dogs and cats, which aims to curb puppy mills, illegal dog trade and dog smuggling more effectively. The goal is good, but the means are not in line with the goals.

Dogs living in Norway are prohibited from participating in canine events in Finland during 7th and 8th September 2019

The Finnish Kennel Club’s Board has decided to prohibit dogs living in Norway from participating in canine events in Finland. The prohibition is valid until further notice. The situation is re-evaluated next week. The Swedish and Danish Kennel Clubs made a similar decision yesterday. The prohibition is caused by a serious epidemic affecting several dogs in Norway.
