The dog owner is always responsible for their dog and any damage caused by it, but the Finnish Kennel Club can also restrict the participation of dogs that have behaved threateningly or aggressively towards others from shows, trials, and other events.
When and how to report
A report should be made when a dog is excluded from the event, its participation is interrupted or the result is rejected due to aggressive behaviour. A report can also be made regarding a dog that behaves aggressively in the event area or in its immediate vicinity, regardless of whether it has been registered for the event.
The report is primarily made by a person who themself or whose dog has been the object of aggressive behaviour. Secondarily, the report can also be made by a representative of the event. The report must be made before the end of the event using the Finnish Kennel Club’s form, which can be obtained from the event organiser.
By filling out and signing the report of aggressive dog behaviour, the judge/show instructor/chief judge in charge of the trial/junior handler judge places the dog under a temporary five-day (5) participation ban, effective from the event day, due to its aggressive behaviour.
Angry or timid?
The purpose of the reporting procedure is to provide security for all participants.
Fear is a very common cause of aggressive behavior, and a fearful dog can defend itself by biting if necessary. Even if you don't perceive this as anger, the end result is the same for the target, and that's why dogs whose behavior is based on fear are also reported.
