Hunting Trial for Spitz is a hunting-like trial event where the dog’s search of and work with game birds (western capercaillie, black grouse and hazel grouse) is evaluated in the terrain. During the trial, the dog must independently move around the terrain and bark at the right kind of game. The length of each trial is 4 hours. Game is not shot in hunting trials for spitz.
Hunting Trial for Spitz may be participated in by the following breeds: Finnish Spitz, Norrbottenspitz, West-Siberian Laika, East-Siberian Laika, Russian-European Laika, and Karelian Bear Dog.
Purpose of Hunting Trial for Spitz
The purpose of the trial is to find out more about the dog’s abilities for barking birds for breeding and to develop the dogs’ abilities in practical hunting.
The purpose of the trials is also to maintain the hunting of fowls with a barking dog at a high-quality canine activity and to maintain and develop the cooperation of the enthusiasts.
The most successful Finnish Spitz and Norrbottenspitz of the trials compete on a national level of a Finnish Championship of their breed every year.
