Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Black Majesty Some Say owned and bred by Iva Raič from Croatia, has been chosen as the Best in Show dog at the World Dog Show 2025 in Helsinki. The Winner was selected by judge Harri Lehkonen.
BIS2 was standard size Xoloitzcuintle Master Rock Calaco, owned by Silvia Tojo & Miguel Alonso from Mexico. BIS3 was Border Collie Pukawidgee The Moon In Winter, owned by Ashlee Houlden, Lynette Houlden & Jarrod Tyler from Australia. BIS4 was English Springer Spaniel Lordsett The Winner Takes It All, owned by Dominika Wiśniewska from Poland. All results can be found here.
The World Dog Show 2025 and the preceding Circuit Shows were together the largest international dog event in Finland in over a decade. A total of 24,000 dogs were registered for the shows. Representatives of 397 different dog breeds from 73 countries around the world participated. A total of over 48,000 visitors visited the venue during the four days of the event.
More than 15,700 dogs participated in the actual World Dog Show from Friday to Sunday. The most registered breeds were Labrador Retriever (241), Finnish Lapphund (204), Golden Retriever (171), and Dalmatian (160).
Dogs from 73 different countries participated in the show. After Finland (9,093), the largest number of participants came from Sweden (1,121) and Poland (720). Dogs came to Helsinki from all over the world, including Peru, Singapore, Bahrain, and South Korea. The participants who traveled the furthest to attend the show came from Australia.
The event was made possible by hundreds of volunteers from Finnish dog clubs who helped build and organize the show. A warm thank you to everyone involved in the arrangements!
In addition to dogs, 393 junior handlers competed in the World Dog Show. Junior handlers aged 10–18 from around the world took part in the competition. The winner of the final held on Sunday was Alexandra Beatrice Ambrus, representing Romania. Selina Norppa from Finland achieved a silver medal in the competition. The judge was Thomas Wastiaux from Belgium.
At the end of each day of the show, awards were given to the best junior, best veteran, best breeder group, and best pair in each breed group. All results can be found here.
Finnish breeds were recognized on Saturday with their own award. Judge Paavo Mattila selected the Lapponian Herder Suukkosuun Tuuletar, owned by Sirpa Kaattari, as the best dog representing Finnish breeds at the show.
It was important to the Finnish Kennel Club that issues related to dog welfare were kept in the spotlight and that guidelines and rules related to welfare were made clear to all participants.
FKC's welfare advisors were also present at the exhibition center, advising and instructing competitors on how dog welfare is taken into account in Finnish legislation, show rules, and culture.
