About 28,600 visitors at the Dog Fair
The two-day Dog Fair Finland at Messukeskus in Helsinki attracted once again a large crowd of dog enthusiasts and those interested in dogs.
In addition to four dog shows, the event drew visitors with the Breed Plaza, which showcased various dog breeds, and with over 80 different organizations and companies at the fair stands. There were also numerous dog hobby demonstrations, as well as the Finnish Kennel Club’s friend and reading dogs, and various working dogs. For children, the fair offered activities such as a toy dog competition and a youth section organized by the Finnish Kennel Club.
Also, awards were given to the Working Dogs of the Year and Hero Dogs, as well as breeders who received the Vuolasvirta award and the Show Dogs of the Year.
The Breed Plaza offered a great opportunity to get to know more than 30 dog breeds up close. The participating breed clubs had put significant effort into their stands. This year, the award for the best stand was given to the Finnish Collie Association’s stand by both the Kennel Club’s dog welfare advisors and the jury from the Kennel Club and partner Hau Hau Champion.
Dog welfare advisors, as usual, circulated the event to guide and advise dog owners and to hand out “Nice Dog Team” rosettes. At the end of the fair, the welfare advisors were satisfied.
- Things went well from the dogs’ perspective. People paid great attention to, among other things, the size of the cages. The target group of the fair is well aware of the importance of dog welfare, though there were still some points to note, said the Kennel Club’s veterinarian Liisa Lilja-Maula, who coordinated the welfare advisors’ work.
A total of over 13,500 dogs were entered in the Dog Fair Finland’s dog shows. On Saturday, the Helsinki Puppy Show and the Nordic Helsinki Winner 2025 show were held. The best dog in the show was the smooth-coated retriever Caci's Fifty Shades Of Music, owned by Jenny Anderson. The best puppy in the puppy show was Claudia, and Tuija Rönhövde’s whippet Kingpoint Piadina.
On Sunday, the Winner Puppy Show and the international Winner 2025 show took place. The best dog in the Winner Show was Elina Keinäen's and Hanna Kanerva's bichon frise Keymaker’s One More Crazy Trick. The best puppy in the puppy show was Krista Nyman’s löwchen Royalgambler Lightning Strike.
Maisa Turunen won the Finnish championship in junior handling. The judge for the competition was Svein Bjørnes from Norway.
