Postal strike affects services of the Finnish Kennel Club

A strike that affects mail delivery will begin on Monday, 11th November and continue until Sunday, 24th November. The main Finnish postal service Posti estimates that the delivery of letters and magazines will be interrupted and that the delays could last for weeks. This also affects services of the Finnish Kennel Club and Showlink Oy, as well as deliveries related to Koiramessut – Dog Fair Finland.

Reading dogs

Reading for a dog can inspire one to read. A reading dog’s job is to listen to the reader and be present. The dog doesn’t judge or point out if the reader makes an error, is slower than others or hesitates. The dog’s presence relaxes the reader and relieves anxiety. Reading dogs work primarily in libraries. Reading dog activities are a form of Animal Assisted Activities and based on voluntariness.

Getting a dog

Getting a dog means that you make a commitment to a new family member that may last for up to 10 to 15 years. Careful consideration and familiarisation with the issues involved are required before getting a dog. A dog should never be taken on the spur of the moment. If you do your groundwork diligently, a dog can become a long-term loyal companion that will bring you joy for many years.

The upcoming EU regulation will steer dog breeding in a more commercial direction, towards large kennel units

In 2023, the European Commission published a proposal for a regulation on the welfare and identification of dogs and cats, which aims to curb puppy mills, illegal dog trade and dog smuggling more effectively. The goal is good, but the means are not in line with the goals.
