The Finnish Kennel Club’s Board has decided to prohibit dogs living in Norway from participating in canine events in Finland. The prohibition is valid until further notice. The situation is re-evaluated next week. The Swedish and Danish Kennel Clubs made a similar decision yesterday. The prohibition is caused by a serious epidemic affecting several dogs in Norway.

Every year, the Finnish Kennel Club gives Hero Dog Awards to dogs that have helped save one or more human lives. The Finnish Hunting Act states that dogs must be kept on a leash all across Finland starting on Sunday, 1 March. The leashing period lasts from the beginning of March until 19 August.

Under the Hunting Act, the period for keeping dogs on leashes ends nationally on Sunday 20 August. This period lasts annually from the beginning of March until 19 August, when the dogs must be kept on a leash.
