The Finnish Kennel Club’s walk test helps eliminate dogs with severe breathing problems from breeding

Walk tests targeted for 12 different brachycephalic breeds were introduced by the Finnish Kennel Club in 2017. The test helps to eliminate individuals with severe Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) from breeding. By 11th June 2019, 404 results from walk tests had been recorded to the Finnish Kennel Club’s Breeding Database. Almost all tested dogs (95 %) have passed the test.

Regulations about vaccinations and infectious diseases

By having your dog vaccinated, you can protect it from dangerous infectious diseases. A dog that participates in different canine events must be accompanied by a vaccination certificate, where the dog’s identification marking as well as the expiry date of vaccinations is recorded.  In dog shows and trials in Finland, the Finnish Kennel Club’s Omakoira mobile application also serves as an official vaccination certificate.
