Finnish Kennel Club: Breed bans not the best way to go when improving health and well-being of dogs

Oslo District Court decided on 31st January 2022 that breeding of English Bulldogs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels is against the Norwegian animal welfare act. This has sparked a debate also in Finland. The Finnish Kennel Club sees that breed bans are not the best way to improve the health and well-being of dogs.

Keeshond Best in Show at Helsinki Winner dog show

Keeshond Eerondaali Braveheart was Best in Show at Helsinki Winner 2018 dog show. The breeder of the dog is Petri Turunen and owner Taru Hankela. The Best in Show dog was appointed by Renée Sporre-Willes from Sweden. 6250 dogs took part in the show. 1011 puppies participated in Helsinki Puppy Show. Helsinki Winner was arranged as a Nordic Dog Show now for the first time.

Hunting Trial for Spitz

Hunting Trial for Spitz is a hunting-like trial event where the dog’s search of and work with game birds (western capercaillie, black grouse and hazel grouse) is evaluated in the terrain. During the trial, the dog must independently move around the terrain and bark at the right kind of game. The length of each trial is 4 hours. Game is not shot in hunting trials for spitz.
