Finnish dog show judges are respected around the world. This was proven in a great way yesterday, when our internationally well-known and distinguished dog show judge Kari Järvinen was named All Breed Judge of the Year at the Pawscars 2018 charity event in the UK. Warm congratulations!

Kari Järvinen got his first dog in 1957. He started breeding with Beagles. He has also bred Scottish Terriers and West Highland White Terriers. However, his “own breed” is the Boxer, which he used to handle in rings with great success.

Kari Järvinen started his judging career in 1972. He became an all-rounder judge in 1991. He can often be spotted at notable dog shows around the globe. He has judged dogs in some 80 different countries.

He has held positions of trust in the Finnish Kennel Club as well as internationally for a long time. He has been a member of the Finnish Kennel Club’s Council since the 1970s. He has served on the Finnish Kennel Club’s Board for a long time and now holds the position as the Vice Chair of the Council.

Kari Järvinen has been the Chair of the Show Committee for the Finnish Kennel Club’s international dog shows for several decades. During his time in the Show Committee, two FCI World Dog Shows have been held in Finland, in 1998 and 2014.

On an international level, Kari Järvinen represents the Finnish Kennel Club on the FCI Board, which he has been a member of since 1995. He has served on the Board of the Nordic Kennel Union for a long time, as well.

Kari Järvinen has been a member of The Kennel Club in the UK since 1999. He was invited to become an Honorary Member of the Finnish Kennel Club in 2010.

- This result illustrates the appreciation of Finland in the UK as well as internationally. Therefore, this award was also an award for Finland and for my mentors Hans Lehtinen and Rainer Vuorinen. Without them, this would not have been possible. They have cleared the path, Kari Järvinen praises. He thanks all the Finnish voters for their support.

Angela Cavill, a friend of Finland and the Finnish dogdom, also celebrated Kari Järvinen’s award at Pawscars.

-  Hans Lehtinen, Rainer Vuorinen and Kari Järvinen are ambassadors to the work of Finnish judges, Mrs Cavill says.
